Fertility Panel
- Both Ureaplasma and mycoplasma are associated with infertility. They are both facultative anaerobes which infect the sperm as they enter the cervix. The result is immobility of the sperm; thus, the swimming cannot occur up through the uterus and into the fallopian tubes.
- It has been found that treatment of positive cultures does result in pregnancy over the next several months.
- Counseling for this panel is significant in leads to treatment as well as follow-up cultures to make sure it is fully treated
- This panel also test for resistance to the common antibiotics that are used to treat both the Mycoplasma and Ureaplasma.
The Vaginitis Panel
- Recurrent vaginal infections which may present with recurrent irritation on the external genitalia is one of the most common complaints for patients to see the gynecologist.
- Most times this recurrent infection is due to the vaginal biome is no longer in balance. Examination of the biome to determine what bacteria is present is critical to adequate treatment
- Over the counter treatments or recurrent use of antibiotics without determining the specific cause will in many cases result in continued infection
General STI and HPV Testing
- Chlamydia and gonorrhea are 2 of the most common STDs, and may present with no symptoms
- Early diagnosis and treatment can prevent long-standing damage to the reproductive organs
- HPV, human papilloma virus, is associated with cervical vaginal and vulvar cancers. Early diagnosis of the presence of HPV allows the patient to have regular follow-up to prevent tissue effects of this virus
